Poverty in India

" 10 children died due to Malnutrition" this and many other headlines like this we read daily in newspaper. Isn't it a shame for country like us ? Even after 62 years of Independence , we aren't able to eradicate poverty from our society. Say it lack of political will or deliberation to keep away this 45 million population from basic facilities for their cynical purpose.
What are the reasons that we are lagging behind other developing nations like China in increasing per capita income? Firstly , I would like to say there is lack of clear vision that what are the goals we want to achieve and what is time frame for achieving it? Secondly, for the past 2 years India has witnessed 2 % growth in GDP while population growth is around 1.9% . That means there is inverse proportion in Population increase and resources. Thirdly, majority of India's population is deprived of basic facilities like Education , Food , Shelter. Literacy rate in India is not satisfactory even after years of Independence. And the most important reason is 40 % of India's Wealth is concentrated in hands of 20% people.
So, with this list of n number of reasons can we accomplish this mission impossible ? The answer is yes. Firstly , Government should focus on whether the package declared is reaching to intended recepients. India stands among top 50 in the list of most corrupt nations in the world. The majors taken by Congress goverment like UID project are appreciable. It's a right step towards progress but more things need to be done. With schemes like NREGA government is ensuring 100 days employment to rural people but is it really helpful for them in long term? More focus should be on building skill sets of people so that they can uplift themselves without any support. And I am cocksure , once this is taken into consideration these people will start contributing for more greater cause of nation building.
Secondly, Government should focus on increasing exports and reducing imports. People should be educated through mass media to utilise the resources carefully. With reduction in import bills we can definitely focus on other important facilities like Healthcare, Free education to economically backward sections. Cast should not be the only criteria.
Thirdly , Goverment should focus on developing infrastructure. Thus, it will definitely help to bridge the gap between these two India - Rural and Urban. Agriculture, which contributes 3 % of GDP is most neglected among all sectors. We can see cases of suicide among farmers like suicides of farmers in Vidarbha region to say the least. So, the construction of dams, canals , Water harvesting measures will help to boost rural economy and in turn nation's.
With these measures taken into account , in my opinion we will be able to achieve our Northstar of 2020.
